Who we are

A professional body. Built by teachers, for teachers.

Founded in 2006 to do one thing well — verify yoga teachers and stand behind them. Twenty years on, ten thousand members, one hundred countries, and a small team holding the floor for the profession.

The problem we exist to solve

Yoga had no institutional spine.

Other professions have one. Doctors have Royal Colleges. Lawyers have the Law Society. Yoga in the early 2000s had self-certification at one extreme and weekend-course mills at the other. We started YogaPros to give the profession the institution it needed — a body teachers could stand inside, and that students could rely on.

i.

Verification, not aspiration.

Live CV is the spine. Every credential on a YogaPros teacher's profile is confirmed with the training provider that issued it. Time-stamped, public, beyond dispute. A teacher's record is not what they say about themselves — it is what their providers have confirmed.

ii.

Insurance, not adjacent products.

£6M Professional and Public Liability cover, underwritten by Balens, sits inside membership rather than alongside it. Without the policy, a teacher cannot teach. The institution and the cover are one thing — that is the design.

iii.

Standards, not slogans.

200 hours minimum. 180 of those hours live contact. A named senior lead teacher delivering at least 70 percent of the training. The floor we hold; never the ceiling we point to. Standards are what an institution exists to defend.

Who runs YogaPros

A small team. Long horizon.

We don't optimise for headcount. We optimise for the quality of decisions made by the people closest to the work.

The substance

What sits behind the institution.

Common questions

About YogaPros.

Founded in 2006 as Yoga Alliance UK to give the yoga profession the institutional spine it lacked. Other professions had Royal Colleges and Chartered Institutes; yoga had self-certification at one extreme and weekend-course mills at the other. The body was rebranded YogaPros in October 2025.
Yes. Yoga Pros Organisation Limited, Companies House SC502923, registered in Edinburgh, Scotland. The body is structured as a company limited by guarantee — a not-for-profit constitutional form used by professional bodies and trade associations.
There is no relationship. YogaPros is the UK-founded professional body for yoga teachers and training providers; Yoga Alliance USA is a separate, US-based organisation with different standards and a different governance structure.
Bruce Mackay (founder and CEO), Louise Murray (Head of Growth and Partnerships), and Claire (Head of Professional Protection and Safety) lead the operating team. The body is small by design — every member-facing decision is made by named people, not committees.
Member subscriptions and a margin on the insurance products underwritten by Balens (UK and Eire) and Insurance Canopy (USA). YogaPros does not take advertising revenue from training providers, studios, or any commercial third party that would compromise the standards we hold.
