Your cohort is about to teach. Every one of them needs cover from day one.
Your trainees enter the practicum block in week eleven. Six of them stand in front of real students for assessed teaching that month. By certificate day, all of them have logged contact hours. Three weeks later, your most confident graduate is running her first paid Sunday class in a borrowed studio. The course-to-livelihood transition is exactly when teaching incidents are most likely. The map below shows where each person sits in the cover, and where your training-provider business needs its own cover that we do not write.
"Training providers run real businesses with real liabilities. We hold the cover for the people inside the course (the trainers, the trainees, the graduates after qualification). The cover for the ATP entity itself sits in commercial-broker territory, and we say so. Honest framing protects everyone."
The insurance map
Four people in your training ecosystem. Three sit inside our cover. One sits outside.
Each card holds the cover for a role in the course. The fourth is the cover your training-provider business needs in its own right, and we are direct about where that conversation belongs.

Individual teacher policy
Lead trainers, assistant teachers, mentors observing practicum. Each one carries an individual YogaPros Professional teacher policy in their domiciled territory. The cover follows them when they deliver a session for your course, the same as any other class they teach. £6M in the UK. €6.5M in Eire. $2M in the USA.

Professional membership · from £10/mo
After certificate day, a graduate moves from trainee policy to full Professional teacher cover via YogaPros membership. Live CV verification confirms the qualification, then activation binds £6M / €6.5M / $2M cover for paid teaching. The pathway is direct, the standard transfers, and the cover is in place before the first paid class.

Commercial broker · separate
The training-provider business itself sits in commercial-insurance territory. That includes course-design liability, venue public liability, employer's liability for paid trainers, and professional indemnity for the curriculum. We do not write commercial cover for the ATP entity. Balens have a commercial arm and there are qualified business-insurance brokers who specialise in education delivery. Speak to them directly.

What the people on your course need
Individual teacher policies hold the cover for your trainers. The trainee policy holds the cover for your cohort. Professional cover takes over from graduation day. We hold the frame around the people.
What your business needs separately
Commercial cover for the entity that runs the training. Course-design liability, venue PL, employer's liability. A separate conversation with a commercial broker.
How graduate cover activates
Three steps. One direction. From trainee to qualified teacher.
When a trainee qualifies, the £25 trainee policy ends and full Professional teacher cover takes its place. The bridge is the Live CV. Activation does not happen until qualifications are verified. This is a fiduciary fact, not a queue.
1
Graduate builds Live CV
The newly qualified teacher uploads the certificate from your course, confirms address, completes the verified profile.
2
Claire's team verifies
Every certificate read by a named person, against the standard. ATPs we already accredit clear fastest.
3
Professional cover activates
£6M / €6.5M / $2M cover binds. Certificate appears in the member dashboard. The graduate teaches insured.
Activation is a manual process. Please allow one business day after Live CV verification for the team to bind cover. Graduates from accredited training providers clear fastest because the qualification standard is already known to the verification team.
The graduate-incident pathway
A class taught in week eleven. A claim filed nine months later.
The course-to-livelihood transition is exactly when teaching incidents are most likely. The grid below shows what sits inside cover and what sits outside, then the timeline shows how the cover holds when an incident from the practicum block surfaces months after qualification.
•
Trainee assessed practicum
A trainee teaching peers under supervision during the course is covered by the £25 trainee policy. £6M / €6.5M cover for assessed practicum, study-group teaching, and observed delivery. The cover holds for the full 18 months or until graduation.
Trainee policy · UK + Eire
•
Trainer delivering the course
Lead trainers and assistant teachers running sessions for the cohort are covered by their individual Professional teacher policy. The cover follows the trainer when they deliver for your course, the same as any other class they teach.
Individual UK / Eire / USA cover applies
•
Graduate · first paid class
From certificate day, full Professional teacher cover takes over. £6M / €6.5M / $2M for paid teaching anywhere on the policy. The transition is sequential, not overlapping. Trainee cover ends at graduation. Professional cover begins on activation.
Professional membership · activated via Live CV

Claim arrives months later
The claims-occurring basis on the UK and Eire policies means a claim filed today is covered if the incident happened during the policy period, even if the member has since cancelled. Most yoga claims arrive months after the event. The wording protects the graduate when they do.
Claims-occurring · no run-off cover required
°
NOT covered as standard
Aerial Yoga, Acro Yoga, YogaLates, massage, and personal training sit outside the standard policy. If your course teaches any of these specialisms, the trainees and graduates need a multi-therapy add-on. Tell your cohort before assessed practicum.

Your ATP entity · still outside
Even with every trainer, trainee, and graduate individually covered, the ATP business itself remains outside our policies. Course-design liability, venue PL, employer's liability, and curriculum professional indemnity sit with your commercial broker, not us. Honest framing.

Three names behind the people you train. And the broker conversation behind the entity that trains them.
We did not build the cover ourselves. We built the verification, the standard, and the member infrastructure, and partnered with insurers who underwrite professionals for a living.

Balens
Balens arrange and underwrite the policies behind every individual member. Balens Limited (UK Branch of Balens Europe B.V.) for the UK Professional policy, Balens Europe B.V. for the Eire policy (AfM 12046134). Three decades of complementary-health and yoga-sector experience. Balens are also the route for ATPs needing commercial cover for the entity itself; their commercial team operates separately from the YogaPros member policies.
The UK Professional Yoga Teacher Policy is underwritten by Zurich, one of the oldest and largest insurers in the world. £6M Professional and Public Liability, nil excess, claims-occurring with retroactive cover. The same insurer your accountant or solicitor would expect to see on a professional indemnity certificate. The standard transfers cleanly when graduates from your course join.

The questions training providers ask
What ATP directors actually need to know.
Yes. The trainee policy must be in place before a trainee teaches in front of a real student or peer for assessed practice. The cover is £6M / €6.5M and is a one-time fee paid by the trainee directly. We recommend ATPs build it into the course-induction email so cover is in place before week one of the cohort.
The trainee policy holds for a maximum of 18 months OR until graduation, whichever comes first. For most 200hr courses delivered over 6–12 months, that window is comfortable. For longer courses, the trainee may need to repurchase the policy or transition to Professional cover earlier. Contact us if your course timeline runs beyond 18 months.
The trainee policy ends. The graduate joins YogaPros as a Professional member, builds a Live CV, uploads the certificate from your course, and verification activates the full Professional teacher policy. Allow one business day after Live CV verification for cover to bind. Graduates from accredited training providers clear fastest because the qualification standard is already known to the verification team.
No. The individual policies cover the people. They do not cover the training-provider business. Your ATP entity needs its own commercial cover for course-design liability, venue public liability, employer's liability for paid trainers, and professional indemnity for the curriculum. Balens have a commercial arm. Qualified business-insurance brokers who specialise in education delivery can also place this cover. We will not invent a SKU for it because we do not write that cover.
It depends on when the incident occurred. If the incident happened during training (assessed practicum, peer teaching), the trainee policy responds on a claims-occurring basis even after the trainee qualifies, because the cover holds for the period the incident occurred. If the incident happened after qualification in a paid class, the Professional teacher policy responds. Most yoga claims arrive months after the event. The wording protects both the trainee and the graduate when they do.
The £25 trainee policy is UK and Eire combined. It does not cover trainees domiciled outside those territories. International trainees need cover arranged in their home territory. USA-domiciled trainees in particular cannot be covered by the YogaPros trainee policy because the USA route runs through Insurance Canopy and is for qualified teachers, not trainees. If you accept international trainees, build that into the application process and ask for proof of cover at enrolment.
A standard ATP commercial cover stack typically includes public liability for the venue, employer's liability for paid trainers and assistants, professional indemnity for the curriculum and assessment design, and depending on operations, cyber, contents, and business-interruption cover. None of these are YogaPros member policies. A commercial broker who specialises in education or training delivery will scope the right structure for your business model.
The pathway is direct. After certificate day, the graduate joins YogaPros (Professional membership starts at £10/month in the UK and includes UK insurance), builds a Live CV, uploads the certificate from your course, completes the verified profile. Verification clears in one business day for accredited-ATP qualifications. We can offer cohort-induction support for ATPs who want a single email pathway for their graduates — speak to the accreditation team.
For accredited training providers
Cover for the people you train. The accreditation team holds the conversation.
Trainee policy details are public. Accreditation, cohort onboarding, graduate-pathway support and ATP partnership conversations run through Louise and the team.
You set the standard for the people you train. We hold the cover frame around them.
A training provider builds a course, recruits a cohort, and three years later a graduate is teaching in a studio you have never visited. The standard you set in the room becomes the standard a paying student experiences in their first class. That transition from course to livelihood is exactly where teaching incidents are most likely. Our job is the cover frame around the people during the course and into the careers that follow. The trainee policy holds the cohort. Individual policies hold your trainers. Professional cover takes over on graduation day. The cover for the business that runs the course sits with a commercial broker, and we say so. Honest framing protects everyone.
